James Vermont of York had a small workshop where he used to stuff animals for English museums. James Vermont liked his job and spent hours in his workshop.

One day he received an order for an elephant for a museum in Ireland. He worked hard to make it. When it was finished he made an orange, plastic coat for it. It fitted right round the body, legs and trunk. His visitors looked at the elephant, laughed and thought it was funny. They asked him "Why have you dressed it up like that? Are you afraid he may catch a cold?" James laughed heartily and said "This is to keep it dry on its long journey by open lorry."

Soon, however, he found that the elephant was too big to get through the door of his workshop. He scratched his head. "What shall I do?" he wondered. Well, he had to take off part of the roof. Then the elephant was lifted through it and put on the lorry outside. The lorry driver drove the stuffed elephant to its new home. James looked at the lorry going away and a tear rolled down his check.
